BMF 2024 presents MCB Open Day 10th March

Merri-bek City Band (MCB) is a dynamic community music organisation based in Brunswick, Melbourne. The Band-and its antecedents in Brunswick and Coburg - has been pumping out brassy tunes since 1882. In recent times Merri-bek City Band has been reinvented, evolving beyond traditional brass band music to encompass anything from jazz big band- Afro Sri-Lankan Drumming-through to the weird and wonderful of the avant garde in new creative music.

In any given week, rehearsals and performances at Cross Street will encompass the whole gamut of music from amateur community ensembles to some of Australia’s most acclaimed jazz professionals.

For this BMF event the MCB will opens its doors for all to have a look and listen.  Over the seven hours one could enjoy outdoor roving bands, join in and play in an ensemble, enjoy the sounds of a big band or a jazz concert with master musician Tony Gould or participate in an African Drumming Workshop.
